Giuseppe Cipriano

Giuseppe Cipriano practices in all areas of criminal law and has appeared before all levels of courts in Ontario including the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court and the Court of Appeal. He has also appeared before public inquiries and other quasi criminal administrative tribunals.

Mr. Cipriano has successfully defended clients in all ranges of criminal matters. He has achieved acquittals in various matters including domestic violence, drinking and driving/impaired cases, sexual assaults, robbery, break and enters, drug trafficking, production of drugs, frauds as well as breach charges and causing disturbances. Mr. Cipriano has also successfully applied to have evidence excluded as a result of Charter of Rights violations on the part of police. Giuseppe has also successfully negotiated timely settlements for clients in order to minimize their exposure to the justice system.

Giuseppe was called to the bar in 2004. He earned his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law in 2003. Prior to that Giuseppe graduated with an Honours B.A. from the University of Toronto in 2000.

Giuseppe understands that facing prosecution by the state is a difficult, stressful and turbulent time for clients of all ages. He therefore believes in an aggressive and strategic defence for his clients when facing the powers and resources of the state during a criminal prosecution. In a new era of tough on crime legislation, only a proactive and well planned defence can ensure that client’s rights and interests are protected and presented to the courts during this difficult period.

In addition to his practical experience, Giuseppe is also a member of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, the Criminal Lawyers Association, and the County of Carleton Law Association. He lectures frequently at the University of Ottawa, and had presented papers for the Fall Criminal Law Conference hosted by the DCAO/CCLA. Giuseppe has worked with Co-op students from the Carleton University criminology program, introducing them to the practice of criminal law.
